2020: Our World

Header photograph by Billy Sweeney for the Kodak film competition.

During 2020 Stirling Photography Festival did not run as planned, due to the impact of the COVID 19 pandemic. The team rose to the challenge and with a fabulous group of photographers and partners, we moved our festival on line, running a series of Instagram Takeovers, Portfolio Reviews and a Kodak sponsored film photography competition.

  • Instagram Takeovers

Instagram Takeovers coordinated by Creative Team member Tony-Jake Green—@tonyjakegreenphotography and featuring John Farnan, Fiona Read, Sonja Blietschau, Christopher Barr, Sam McDiarmid and Lindsay Forsyth.

  • Portfolio Reviews

Portfolio Reviews coordinated by Creative Team member Lindsay Forsyth @for.syth and led by Ben Harman, (Director, Stills Edinburgh) and Claire Craig (Curator, The Travelling Gallery).

  • Kodak Film Competition

Sponsored by Kodak and led by Rab Fyfe and Sam McDiarmid from our Creative Team. With 24 entrants, the Kodak film developed by Gulabi of Glasgow with the resulting exhibition sponsored by The Barracks Stirling.

Digital Exhibitions

  • Kodak Competition

The Stirling Photography Festival is proud to present the online exhibition of the Our World 2020 Kodak film competition, with the generous support of Kunstmatrix.

  • Sam McDiarmid: Day of Access

These images were taken by Sam McDiarmid on the 15th of June 2019 during the pilot run of Alec Finlay's Day of Access project. The pilot day took four disabled people to an altitude of 720 meters, giving spectacular views of Schiehallion and the surrounding landscape.
Sam was a photography student at the time and was comissioned to document the excursion.

  • Rab Fyfe : Street

This exhibition features street photography, captured by Rab Fyfe during the late 2010s. Some are from Scotland, others from different holidays across Europe. Some are on 35mm film, some are digital. What links them all is that they represent concepts Rab is drawn to. These are scenes which have an element of "humour or question" or often both.

Our World Exhibitions

The creative mind behind 2020’s poster was Jon Bishop, The Grey Earl). Jon produced a video illustrating the process and inspiration that went into the poster.

The following photographs are a selection shot on Kodak disposable film cameras for the competition. The photographs were developed and scanned by our friends at Gulabi in Glasgow.
